Re-engage connections who accept late
What this page covers
"Re-engage late accepts" is a per-campaign setting on your LinkedIn campaigns. It decides what happens when someone accepts your connection request after your campaign's wait window has already passed — the point where your sequence stopped waiting and ended for that person.
Here's the short version:
- Off (the default): a late accepter is added to your Late Accepts list, where you can send a follow-up to them with one click, whenever you choose. Nothing is sent automatically.
- On: a late accepter is automatically continued into your follow-up sequence, so you don't have to follow up by hand. The message is still sent at your normal pace — your daily limits, your warm-up ramp, and your sending window all still apply.
The setting is off by default so that your campaign's wait window is respected unless you decide otherwise. If you set a 7-day wait, the default behavior treats day 7 as the cut-off and leaves later accepts for you to handle on your terms.
WarmySender is a 4-pillar outreach platform — Cold Emailing, Email Warmup, LinkedIn Outreach, and Multichannel sequences. This page is part of the LinkedIn Outreach pillar.
What the setting does
Most LinkedIn sequences are built like this: send a connection request, wait a set number of days for the person to accept, and then — if they've accepted — send your first message. That wait period (often 7 days) is how long the sequence pauses before it moves on.
LinkedIn invites are often accepted late — days, sometimes a week or two, after they were sent. By the time someone accepts late, your sequence has already finished waiting for them. The "Re-engage late accepts" setting decides what happens next:
- When it's on, a late accepter is automatically picked back up and continued into the rest of your sequence — your first message and any later steps you defined — exactly as if they had accepted in time. You don't lift a finger.
- When it's off, the sequence stays ended for that person. Their late accept is recorded in your Late Accepts list, and you decide whether and when to follow up with a single click.
Either way, the acceptance itself is always recognized and counted — turning the setting on or off only changes whether the follow-up is sent automatically or left for you to send manually.
Where to find it
The setting lives in your LinkedIn campaign settings:
- Open Campaigns and select the LinkedIn campaign you want to adjust.
- Open the campaign's Settings.
- Find Re-engage late accepts and switch it on or off.
- Save. The setting applies to that campaign only — your other campaigns keep their own settings.
You can turn it on at any time. From the moment you save, late accepts that arrive afterward are continued into your sequence automatically. Turning it off again stops new late accepts from being continued automatically and sends them back to your Late Accepts list for manual follow-up.
Why it's off by default
It's off by default because the most respectful thing we can do is honor the wait window you chose. If you set a 7-day wait, that's a deliberate decision — and by default we treat anyone who accepts after that window as someone you'll choose to follow up with on your own terms, rather than re-starting their sequence without asking.
This keeps two things true at once:
- Your campaign runs the way you built it. Nothing happens that you didn't set up. A late accept doesn't quietly re-open a sequence you intended to end.
- You stay in control of late follow-ups. The Late Accepts list shows you exactly who came in late, and you decide one by one — or in bulk — whether to reach out.
If you'd rather not handle late accepts by hand, turning the setting on is the one decision that hands that work back to the platform. It's your call, and it's reversible at any time.
Worked example
Say your LinkedIn sequence is set up like this:
- Send the connection request
- Wait 7 days for them to accept
- If accepted, send the first message
- Wait 3 days
- Send the second message
You send a request to a prospect on October 1. They don't accept by October 8, so the 7-day wait window closes and your sequence ends for them. Then, on October 10 — day 9 — they accept your request. That's a late accept, two days after your window closed.
With "Re-engage late accepts" off (the default): the prospect appears in your Late Accepts list. Their acceptance is recognized and counted. Nothing is sent automatically. When you're ready, you open the list and send the follow-up with one click — and from there the rest of the sequence (the 3-day wait, the second message) continues as you designed it.
With "Re-engage late accepts" on: the prospect is automatically picked back up and continued into the sequence at your first message — no action needed from you. That message is queued and sent at your normal pace (inside your sending window, within your daily limit, on your account's warm-up ramp), and then the 3-day wait and the second message follow, exactly as you set them up.
The outcome is the same either way — the person who accepted late gets your follow-up. The only difference is whether you send it yourself or the platform sends it for you.
Sending still respects your daily limits, ramp, and window
Turning this setting on does not mean messages go out faster or skip any of your protections. When a late accepter is continued into your sequence automatically, the follow-up is sent exactly the way every other message in your campaign is sent:
- Your daily sending limit. If you've already reached your limit for the day, the follow-up waits for the next day's first available slot. There are no bursts and nothing goes over the limit you set.
- Your warm-up ramp. If your account is still early in its warm-up, the conservative daily ceiling still applies. The follow-up takes its place in line up to that day's safe ceiling.
- Your sending window. Messages only go out during the hours and on the days you chose. If a late accept arrives at 11 PM and your campaign sends 9 AM–5 PM, the message is scheduled for the next morning's window — never at an off-hour. A small, natural spacing is applied so messages never fire at the same instant.
For most accounts inside their sending window with room left in the daily limit, the follow-up goes out within minutes of the accept. When it takes longer, that's your own settings pacing it for safety — not something stuck. Account safety always comes first: a late accept is sent just as carefully as an on-time one.
How this differs from the default manual Late Accepts follow-up
Both paths reach the same people; they differ in who does the work and how much control you keep over each message.
- Default (setting off) — manual one-click follow-up. Late accepts collect in your Late Accepts list. You review who's there and send the follow-up yourself with one click, whenever you decide. This is the most hands-on option: you choose exactly who to re-engage and when. It's a good fit if you like to glance at who accepted late and pick selectively, or if late accepts are rare enough that a quick manual pass is easy.
- Setting on — automatic continuation. Late accepters are continued into your follow-up sequence on their own, at your normal pace. This is the most hands-off option: you set it once and every future late accept is followed up for you, no list to clear. It's a good fit if you'd rather not check a list, or if you get enough late accepts that handling them by hand is tedious.
You can switch between the two at any time, per campaign. Turning the setting on doesn't remove the Late Accepts list — it simply means late accepts are followed up automatically instead of waiting there for you. And in both cases, the message that's sent is the same follow-up your sequence already defines, sent with the same safety pacing.
Account safety
Whichever way you set this, your LinkedIn account is protected the same way. Continuing a late accepter into your sequence adds no shortcuts and no special treatment:
- Nothing is sent that wasn't accepted. A follow-up is only ever continued for someone who genuinely accepted your connection request.
- Every safety rule still applies — your daily sending limit, your warm-up ramp, your sending window, and natural spacing between messages.
- If your account is disconnected when the accept arrives, the follow-up simply waits and goes out once you reconnect, like any other queued message.
The setting only decides whether the follow-up is sent for you automatically or left for you to send manually — it never speeds anything up or relaxes the limits that keep your account safe.
Common questions
What does "Re-engage late accepts" actually do?
It decides what happens when someone accepts your connection request after your campaign's wait window has already passed. When it's on, that person is automatically continued into your follow-up sequence so you don't have to follow up by hand. When it's off (the default), they're added to your Late Accepts list for a one-click manual follow-up instead. Either way, their acceptance is recognized and counted.
Where do I find the setting?
Open Campaigns, select your LinkedIn campaign, open its Settings, and switch "Re-engage late accepts" on or off, then save. It applies to that one campaign — your other campaigns keep their own settings.
Why is it off by default?
So your campaign's wait window is respected unless you choose otherwise. If you set a 7-day wait, the default treats anyone who accepts after that as someone you'll follow up with on your own terms, rather than re-starting their sequence automatically. Turning the setting on is the one decision that hands late-accept follow-ups back to the platform — and it's reversible anytime.
If I turn it on, will the follow-up send immediately?
It's queued right away and usually goes out within minutes, as long as you're inside your sending window and have room left in your daily limit. If the accept arrives at night, or you've hit your daily limit, or your account is still warming up, the message waits for the next valid moment. Your own settings decide the timing — the follow-up is never rushed and never exceeds your limits.
Does turning it on send messages faster or skip my limits?
No. A late-accept follow-up goes through every safety check your campaign already uses — your daily sending limit, your account's warm-up ramp, your sending window, and natural spacing between messages. It's sent just as carefully as an on-time accept. The setting only changes whether the follow-up is automatic or manual, never how fast or how safely it sends.
What's the difference between this and the Late Accepts list?
The Late Accepts list is the manual, hands-on path: late accepts collect there and you send the follow-up yourself with one click, whenever you choose. Turning "Re-engage late accepts" on is the automatic path: late accepters are continued into your sequence for you, at your normal pace, with no list to clear. Both reach the same people and send the same follow-up — they differ only in who sends it. Turning the setting on doesn't remove the list; it just means you don't have to act on it. For more on what a late accept is, see What is a "late accept".
Can I turn it on for one campaign and leave it off for another?
Yes. It's a per-campaign setting. You might turn it on for a high-volume campaign where checking a list by hand is tedious, and leave it off for a campaign where you prefer to pick selectively who to re-engage. Each campaign keeps its own setting.
What happens to people who accepted late before I turned it on?
People who accepted late while the setting was off are in your Late Accepts list, ready for a one-click manual follow-up — turning the setting on going forward doesn't change what already happened to them. From the moment you save, late accepts that arrive afterward are the ones continued into your sequence automatically. If you want to reach earlier late accepts, send their follow-up from the Late Accepts list with one click.
