Upgrading or Changing Your Plan (Proration Explained)
Moving up to a bigger plan is instant, and you only ever pay for what you actually use. This guide explains exactly what happens to your bill when you upgrade, change, or downgrade your WarmySender plan — in plain language, with a worked example so there are no surprises on your card statement.
Upgrades take effect immediately
The moment you confirm an upgrade, the higher plan is live on your account. You get the new plan's limits and features right away — there's no waiting for your next billing date, no overnight processing, no temporary lockout. Pick the plan, confirm, and you're already on it.
You only pay the prorated difference today
When you upgrade in the middle of a billing cycle, you don't pay a fresh full month on top of what you've already paid. Instead, you pay only the prorated difference — the gap between your old plan and your new plan, counted just for the days remaining in your current cycle. That smaller, one-time amount is charged to your card on file today. After that, you're simply billed the new plan's normal monthly price on your usual billing date, the same date you've always renewed on. Nothing about your billing date changes — only the plan and the price going forward.
A worked example
Say you're on Pro at $14.99/month and you upgrade to Enterprise at $69.99/month about halfway through your billing cycle. You won't be charged the full $69.99 today. You'll pay only the difference for the days left in the cycle — roughly $27 today in this example — and then $69.99/month from your next billing date onward. The exact amount you see depends on how many days are left when you upgrade: upgrade early in the cycle and the prorated amount is larger; upgrade near the end and it's smaller. Whatever it works out to, the only thing you pay today is that difference, never a duplicate full month.
If a payment doesn't go through
If the card on file can't be charged for the prorated difference, nothing breaks and nothing is half-applied — your plan simply stays exactly as it was until the payment is sorted. You won't lose access to your current plan, and you won't be partially moved to the new one. Update your card or try again, and the upgrade will go through cleanly.
Downgrades and changing to a smaller plan
Moving to a smaller plan works a little differently: the change takes effect, and any credit for the value you'd already paid for is applied to your next invoice rather than refunded to your card. In other words, you don't lose what you've paid — it carries forward and reduces your next bill. As always, keep an eye on your usage when moving to a smaller plan so your account comfortably fits within the lower plan's limits.
Where to do it (and review before you confirm)
Open the Billing page, pick the plan you want, and review the summary before confirming. The summary spells out exactly what you'll pay today and what your new monthly price will be, so you can see the full picture before anything is charged. Confirm only when the numbers look right — there are no hidden steps after that.
FAQ
Q: Will I be charged a whole extra month when I upgrade mid-cycle?
A: No. You pay only the prorated difference for the days left in your current cycle today, then the new plan's normal price on your regular billing date.
Q: Does my billing date change when I upgrade?
A: No. Your renewal date stays the same. Only your plan and the price you pay going forward change.
Q: How is the 'difference' calculated?
A: It's the gap between your old and new plan prices, counted only for the days remaining in your current cycle. Upgrade earlier in the cycle and the amount is larger; upgrade later and it's smaller.
Q: What happens if my card is declined when I upgrade?
A: Your plan stays exactly as it is until the payment is sorted. Nothing is half-applied — update your card and try again.
Q: I downgraded — where's my refund?
A: Downgrades apply the value you'd already paid for as a credit toward your next invoice rather than a refund to your card, so it carries forward and lowers your next bill.
Q: Can I see what I'll pay before confirming?
A: Yes. The Billing page shows a summary with exactly what you'll pay today and your new monthly price before you confirm anything.
