LinkedIn Connection Request Notes
Connection request notes are the short personalized messages attached to LinkedIn connection invitations.
Blank vs. Personalized Notes:
- Personalized notes are optional — you CAN send connection requests without a message.
- However, personalized notes increase acceptance rates by 40% or more.
- When creating a campaign step of type 'Send Invite', the invite note template is optional.
- If you leave the note blank, the system sends a connection request with no message attached.
- The campaign editor shows a warning (not an error) if you leave the note blank: 'Personalized notes increase acceptance rates by 40%+'
Why You Might See Save Issues:
- If you are unable to save a connection request step, check that your note does not exceed 300 characters (LinkedIn's hard limit).
- Special characters or emoji can sometimes cause encoding issues — try removing them if the save fails.
- Make sure the step type is correctly set to 'send_invite' before configuring the note.
Best Practices for Invite Notes:
- Keep notes under 200 characters for maximum impact — short and direct wins.
- Mention something specific: mutual connection, shared interest, or their recent post.
- Don't pitch in the invite note — save that for after they accept.
- Use merge tags: 'Hi {{firstName}}, I noticed your work at {{company}}...' for personalization at scale.
- A/B test different invite notes to find what resonates with your audience.
Example Invite Notes:
- 'Hi {{firstName}}, fellow [industry] professional here. Would love to connect and share insights.'
- 'Hi {{firstName}}, came across your profile while researching {{company}}. Great to see your work in [area].'
- 'Hi {{firstName}}, we share some mutual connections. Would love to be part of your network.'
Note Character Counter:
The campaign step editor shows a live character counter (e.g., '147/300') to help you stay within LinkedIn's limit.
